Funeral services for Mr. Floyd Petersen, 89 of Royal will be held at 10:30 a.m., today, Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Steve Olson will officiate the service.

A lunch will be served following the services at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trimello Cemetery in rural Royal.

Floyd passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.

Floyd Milton Petersen, the son of Jens Peter Petersen and Florence Maccabee Petersen, was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Royal. His childhood years were spent in Royal where he received his education.

On Aug. 25, 1946, Floyd married Lois Jipson in Spencer. Following their marriage, they lived in the Royal area where they began farming. In the early 1950's, they moved to the Trimello Farm where they made their home for many years until retiring to Royal. Floyd was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Royal where he was on the church board and helped with many other church activities. He was a member of the Royal Gun Club for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Avah Hepworth; and his wife, Lois on Sept. 13, 2005.

Floyd is survived by one son, Rodney Petersen and his wife, Anita of Hartley; three daughters: Mary Jean Petersen of Omaha, Neb., Pam McBride and her husband, Duane of Ogallala, Neb., and Janette Petersen of Omaha, Neb; and four grandchildren.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
