'Why Go Back?' campaign expanded to holiday season

Thursday, December 18, 2008
The Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation is extending its 'Why Go Back' campaign message from summer visitors to those visiting or coming home for the holidays.

Launched just before the 4th of July holiday in 2007 targeting visitors and posing the question - Why go back? - the same question is being communicated throughout the region this holiday season. This simple question is the focus of the advertising campaign to encourage visitors to consider moving to or back to the Iowa Lakes Corridor area.

"With the help and support of our local media, we will be running radio and print ads through this holiday season," said Kathy Evert, president of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation. "We want to help people realize it might be easier to move to this great place than they think."

The 'Why Go Back' holiday campaign is possible because of contributions to the TARGET Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Campaign, a four-year fundraising effort to support the Corridor's economic development business plan through 2012.

"Contributions from KICD radio in Spencer and KILR radio in Estherville, Mediacom, and Rust Publications - Dickinson County News, Spencer Daily Reporter and Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune - totaling over $100,000 through 2012, are making it possible for us to extend this campaign message," said Evert. "The campaign, along with our 'Live Work Play Here' website and relay, are our primary recruitment activities to bring more residents and workers to the area."

I think this is a great campaign. I guess what I wonder is why we are casting such a wide net when it does not seem we have enough professional jobs for the people who already live here.
