Luminary Walk at Hospital Park

Tonight is set for the second annual Luminary Walk at the Grand Avenue Hospital Park, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Enjoy hot chocolate, homemade Christmas cookies, and caroling while walking among the luminaries.

'Renaissance' light fixture to be installed at AOG

Arts on Grand's new light fixture has been installed. Rather than buy an off-the-shelf fixture to replace the one in the front foyer, the board of the Spencer Area Arts Council saw an opportunity to commission a new piece of public art. Local artists were invited to submit designs for a new light fixture to hang in the front foyer. Three entries were submitted, and the public was invited to vote. Spencer artist Holly Kellogg submitted the winning design. Jesse Bogenrief created the glass portion of the fixture. The light fixture was to have been unveiled at Grand Meander, which was cancelled. A brief ceremony will be held at 5:15 p.m. tonight during the artists' reception. The artist will be on hand to light the fixture. City officials and members of the boards of the Spencer Area Arts Council and SPACE are also expected to attend. The public is invited to come and to stay for the gallery talk that will begin at 5:15 p.m. The fixture will hang in the gallery until next year, after the planned restoration of the front of the building to its original appearance. Support for this project was provided through a Renaissance Initiative Grant from the City of Spencer.

Baked Potato Bar Fundraiser

The 2009 After Prom fundraiser for Spencer High School will take place Friday, Dec. 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the form of a Baked Potato Bar with all the fixings at the Spencer vs. Cherokee Basketball game. The cost is $3.50.

District newsletter online

In an effort to more efficiently communicate with district patrons, Spencer Schools will be converting their monthly newsletter, "The Source" to an electronic format available on the District's web site, www.spenceriowaschools.com. The December "Source" is now available online. The district will mail out a printed newsletter to anyone who requests it.

Please call the Central Office at 262-8950 if you want to continue to receive "The Source" every month in your mail.
