Donald Burdette Munger Jr., the son of Donald and Doris (Nielson-Dalby) Munger Sr., was born April 1, 1950, in Spencer. His childhood years were spent on a farm near Peterson. He attended and graduated from Sioux Valley Community School in 1968.
Following graduation, Don joined the Army until his honorable discharge. He then worked in construction as well as farming and painting.
On April 17, 1973, Don suffered a work-related accident that resulted in multiple fractures to his spinal column. A three-year rehabilitation process left him confined to a wheelchair but able to talk and move his head. Following his accident Don moved to Mankato in 1991. He joined SMILES a few years later. Don advocated extensively for disability access and disability services throughout the area. He was responsible for numerous improvements to Mankato's access for people with disabilities, and one that includes tireless efforts to raise awareness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Munger Sr.; and grandparents, Morris and Agnes Dalby, Warner and Neva Munger
Donald is survived by his mother, Doris Munger of Peterson; two brothers: Warner D. Munger and Leonard D. Munger and wife, Kelly; one sister, Dawn E. Fuhrman and husband, Michael; daughters: Stephanie Jean and Melissa Christine Frye; six grandchildren; a god-daughter, Kaliee Labs and her mother Jessica Labs.
