Logan Leader 4-H club members organized a food scavenger hunt to help fill local food pantry shelves at Upper Des Moines Opportunity. Club members recognize the cost of food has been rising and the need for food pantry products is increasing. As a group they decided to create a contest among club members to address these needs and have fun while making a positive difference.

Club members were divided into teams of three or four and given the challenge to collect as many non-perishable food items as they could. Collections also included non-food items such as personal health products, cleaning supplies or paper products. Teams traveled around their neighborhoods asking for and collecting donations. Thanks to the generous support of people living in Logan Township and surrounding areas the club was able to collect 628 items.

Calvin Gibson, Brandon Gibson and Matthew Salton were team members who collected the most items. This team collected over 200 items plus a $10 donation. As members of the winning team the club voted to pay the 2009 4-H fee for each of them.
