Funeral services for Mr. Wayne Weier Sr., 59 of Spencer took place Monday, Nov. 24, 2008 at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Russell Muilenburg officiated the service.

Creamation will take place at a later date.

Military services were conducted by the VFW Clay County Post 3159 of Spencer.

Wayne Lynn Weier, Sr., the son of Lloy and Jenny (Kruse) Weier, was born on Sept. 15, 1949, in Cherokee. When he was a young child, his family moved to the Linn Grove - Sioux Rapids area where he attended school.

On May 22, 1967, Wayne married Diana Collins in Sioux Rapids. Following their marriage, the couple lived in several communities before settling in Spencer. To this union three children were born: Wayne Jr., Cory Allan and Tara Colleen. Unfortunately their marriage ended.

Wayne entered the military on March 23, 1970, serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. While in the Army he received the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Expert and Good Conduct Medal. Wayne was honorably discharged on Dec. 20, 1971. Following his military service, he returned to Spencer and later worked at Heartland Press.

In 1990, Wayne had an unfortunate accident which forced him to leave his job. Wayne then became a self-employed jack-of-all-trades, as he was very handy and could fix anything and was always there to help people. Wayne was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagle's Club in Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Cory Allan; two brothers and one sister.

Wayne is survived by his very special friend, Dori Beck of Spencer; his son, Wayne Weier Jr. of Ankeny; his daughter, Tara Campbell and her husband, Terry of Greeley, Colo.; Jeree and Alice Beck of Spencer; seven grandchildren; five brothers; and two sisters.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
