Funeral services for Bruce L. Ruehle, 81 will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. Rev. Luther Thoresen will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Bruce passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Bruce Lee Ruehle, son of Clarence "Hi" and Lulu (Bigelow) Ruehle, was born July 16, 1927 in Gillette, Wis. After his family moved to the Ruthven area, Bruce attended Lake Center School graduating in 1944.

Bruce served in the United States Navy in the Seabees during World War II. He served in the South Pacific.

On Oct. 20, 1947 Bruce was united in marriage to Jean Smith in Jackson, Minn. To this union five children were born. Bruce and Jean farmed for over 50 years doing both grain farming as well as having livestock.

Bruce was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Post 33 and the Ruthven Community Care Center Board. Bruce served on the board that was instrumental in bringing the low income housing units to Ruthven. He was a past member of the Ruthven Community School Board having served as president.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Ruehle; sister-in-law, Marge Ruehle; and brother-in-law, Jerry Peterson.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Jean of Ruthven; his children: David Ruehle and wife, Marilyn of Graettinger, Gary Ruehle of Ruthven, Mike Ruehle and wife, Kerry of Sioux City, Dean Ruehle and wife, Mary of London, England, and Bob Ruehle and wife, Leanne of Loveland, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Eugene Ruehle and wife, Shirley of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Gerald Ruehle and wife, Kay of Ruthven; two sisters: Phyllis Peterson of Ruthven, and Janice Menefee and husband, Terry of Milford.

Arrangements are being handled by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
