Spencer schools celebrate "American Education Week"

Saturday, November 22, 2008
American Education Week is Nov. 17-21. This year's theme is: "Great Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility." Spencer schools have several events planned for this special week. Those include: District Teacher Appreciation, Alumni (College Colors Day), Support Staff/Substitutes, Volunteers Day, Celebrate Reading Day, and Purple and Gold Day. The staff is also doing a can food drive for Upper Des Moines Pantry.

Today, parents are invited for a brown bag lunch at the elementary buildings with their students in the Spencer Community schools.

Our education is very good. I think that it is so nice of a group of people (teachers) to take their time to help kids understand the meaning of learning. Thank you!

I'm really glad I am getting an education because it will help me get a job. I'm really glad I'm getting an education now to prepare me for college. I can help the world by getting a good education -- like becoming a doctor and saving lives.

Education means learning for a lifetime. It's what make us smarter and helps us get better at what we do. It also is how we get into college. Education is how we fulfill our dreams.

Education means life. Without education it would be hard to get a job, and without a job it would be hard to provide for a family or even yourself. I am glad I am getting a good education and I hope to go to college to start a good lifestyle.
