Funeral services for Leone Shelmidine Lamb, 100 will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Michael Sharp will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Trimello Cemetery in Royal.

Leone passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, with the aid of Hospice of Northwest Iowa at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Leone (Shelmidine) Lamb, the daughter of David and Mae (Galusha) Shelmidine was born June 2, 1908, in Cresco. Her childhood years were spent in Milford and Spencer. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1927. After she graduated she attended the University of Southern California for two years where she earned a teaching certificate. She moved back to Clay County and taught country schools.

On Sept. 1, 1934, Leone was united in marriage to her childhood sweetheart Vernon Lamb in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived in Iowa City, Plattville, Wis., and Maryland. While in Maryland she raised her family and operated a children's clothing store. In 1969, Leone and Vernon retired and moved back to the family farm near Royal. She lived in Royal and then at Riverview Terrace Assisted Living until October of this year.

Leone was a member of the Clay County Garden Club, and on the Royal Library Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Vernon Lamb; her parents; nine brothers and sisters; and two daughters-in-law.

Leone is survived by her four sons: Jim Lamb and wife, Amy of Anthem, Ariz., Mike Lamb of Tucson, Ariz., Donald Lamb of Roanoke, Texas, and John Lamb of rural Spencer; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara A. Heathcote of Corvallis, Ore.

Arrangements are being handled by Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
