Funeral services for Howard L. Mordick, 71 of Sheldon, formerly of Spencer, will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. Rev. Troy Van Beek will officiate the service.

Interment will be at the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Howard passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon.

Howard Lynn Mordick, the son of Leslie Lynn and Cora (Stanfield) Mordick was born Feb. 2, 1937 in Hampton. Howard attended school in Alta, and graduated from the Alta High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Rose Marie Davis on July 17, 1959 in Cherokee. After their marriage they lived in Cherokee, Alta, Storm Lake, Sibley, Spencer and moving to Sheldon in July of 2008. Howard worked as a gas station owner, road construction worker, foreman and mechanic for the school buses in Alta, Cargill; he was last employed as an over the road truck driver from which he retired in 1997.

Howard was of the Lutheran faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Velma Mordick; a brother, Ivan; a sister, Carol; a sister-in-law, Jean Brunning; and his father-in-law, Jay Davis.

Howard is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rose of Sheldon; his mother-in-law, Charlotte Davis of Sheldon; their five children: Charles Mordick of Milan, Ill., Cathy Berge and her husband, Jim of Onalaska, Wis., Kenneth Mordick and his wife, Ranae of Sheldon, Barry Mordick and his wife, Rhonda of Sheldon, and Karen Mordick of Madison, Wis.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers: Arnold Ripley and his wife, Norma of Sac City, Bill Ripley of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Paul Ripley and his wife, Margaret of Alta; and three sisters: Lois Edgington of Sac City, Lynette Jacques and her husband, Roger of Lahaira, Hawaii, and Laurel Goettsch of Riverside, Calif.
