Vocabulary, literacy, creativity and computer skills are intertwining for Spencer Middle School seventh graders who are in the midst of writing and designing their own personal pamphlets for class.
Anji Bennett, the art director of Standard Printing and Design of Spencer, spoke to students Tuesday about how layout can help make their pamphlets come to life for readers. As Bennett showed examples of different fonts, photographs and colors, she stressed consistency and legibleness. Her closing advice for the seventh grade students was to think about what they want to convey to their audience first before they start to design their pamphlets. Bennett also encouraged them to experiment and try different things as they work on laying out their pamphlets.
Bennett's presentation was part of a career piece SMS teachers have added into their language arts block of instruction.
