Funeral services for Ron Williamson, 58 will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ruthven. Rev. Luther Thoresen will officiate the service.

Visitation at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven.

Interment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Ron passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008 in Sutherland.

Ronald Dean Williamson, son of Gene and Peanuts (Mason) Williamson, was born Sept. 22, 1950 in Spencer. Ron attended school in Ruthven graduating from Ruthven Consolidated School in 1969. Following graduation Ron attended the University of South Dakota where he received a degree in Sociology. He was active in the Young Republicans organization while at USD and served on the Executive Council from 1971 until 1972.

Ron served in the United States Army for two years where he worked as a social worker and psychological specialist. While in the service Ron received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from Fort Carson, Colo. with the rank of E-5. Following his service to his country, Ron was employed as a social worker for the Unemployment Office. He then went to work as a social worker and export manager for BSI where he sold meat to many foreign countries.

Ron received recognition from the Governor of the State of Iowa for Outstanding Export Sales of the Year.

Ron was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized on Oct. 29, 1950 and confirmed on Sept. 29, 1966. He had served on the Church Board and been a deacon. Ron was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Post No. 33.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; three uncles; and two aunts.

Ron is survived by his parents, Gene and Peanuts Williamson of Ruthven; his sons: Benjamin Williamson and his wife, Kelly of Blaine, Minn., and Steven Williamson and his wife, Courtney of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren; Maureen's children and their families; two sisters: Connie Severson and her husband, Dave of Spencer, and Linda Hansen and her husband, Dar of Ruthven; and a brother, Rich Williamson and his wife, Julie of Ruthven.

Arrangements are being handled by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
