William B. McDonald, 79, passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 at his home in Mitchell, S.D.

A memorial service will be held for Bill at 1 p.m., Friday Nov. 28, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake.

A reception will be held immediately following, at the home of Jeannie McDonald, located on the south shore of Big Spirit Lake.

William was born in Cherokee on Oct. 31, 1929 to Lew and Olive McDonald. William, known as Bill to his friends and "Bad-Dad" to his family, had an older sister Helen and two brothers, James and John. Bill married Helen Roseberry in Le Mars on July 17, 1953 and had four children: Robert, Thomas, Jeannie and Carol. Bill was also the proud grandparent to thirteen grandchildren.

Bill and Helen made their home in Des Moines where Bill practiced law for over 30 years. They then moved to northwest Iowa to be near their treasured lake cottage on the south shore of Big Spirit Lake. The cottage has been in the McDonald family since the summer of 1938 hosting two weddings, a funeral, several baptisms and ongoing family reunions. Bill also practiced law in Spencer.

He was proceeded in death by his wife; sister; and parents.
