Holiday Family Adoption Program begins today

The Holiday Family Adoption Program, a Spencer-area holiday staple, allows generous area families, businesses and service groups to share in the holiday spirit and bounty.

It's easy to "adopt" a family. You can contact The Daily Reporter Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 262-6610 and let us know the number of the family you wish to "adopt."

Then the fun begins.

You can shop for items on the wish list, wrap them up and drop them off at one of two drop off days; Saturday, December 13 or Saturday, December 20 from 8:30 a.m. until 12 noon on both days. The collection location will be the Depot Building at the Clay County Fairgrounds.

Then, on Sunday, December 21, the Spencer Volunteer Firemen, Spencer Rotary volunteers and area UPS employees will deliver the gifts to families.

It is not necessary to purchase everything on the lists. These are "wish lists." However, all items donated need to be clean and in excellent condition, if not new. Wrapping the gifts is also appreciated.

Donations of food and cash are also welcome. All food donations will be split among the families, and cash donations are used to purchase gifts for families who may not be "adopted." Cash contributions may be sent to the Holiday Family Adoption Program, in care of The Daily Reporter, PO Box 197, Spencer, Iowa 51301.

Food donations may include canned or boxed food items, paper goods, cleaning supplies or other non-perishable supplies.

This year the need is great, and success lies in the generous support of the people of Spencer and the surrounding communities.

Family 1:

Female: age 9. Size 8 slim jeans, warm pajamas, socks, sweatshirts and pants. Likes books, coloring, games.

Male: age 6. Size 6 slim jeans, warm pajamas, socks, sweatshirts. Likes trucks and books.

Female: age 5. Size 6 jeans, sweatshirts, socks, footed pajamas, short sleeve shirts. Likes Barbie and books.

Male: age 31. Size Large. Gas card, food card, bath towels, large socks, sweatshirt.

Female: age 26. Size 2XL. socks, sweatshirts, bath towels.

Family 2:

Male: age 11. Men's size 32, games, books, age appropriate models.

Male: age 6. Size 12H pants, large shirts, trucks, cars, books, age appropriate games.

Male: age 4. Size 5T. puzzles, books, trucks.

Female: age 16 months. Size 18-24 months, dolls, books.

Female: age 33. Gas card or grocery card.

Family 3:

Female: age 6 weeks. Size 6 months, warm sleepers, clothes or snow suit, safe baby toys or dolls, diapers size 1. Need highchair, new or used in good shape.

Male: age 17. Men's size Medium shirts- white t-shirts with no pockets, size 12 shoes, black no-show socks, books or DVD's- comedies or Walmart gift card.

Female: age 38. Grocery card, non-stick frying pan, scented candles, paper towels and toilet paper.

Family 5:

Male: age 74. Size large t-shirts, 42 waist shorts, size 10 slippers, size 40x30 blue jeans, size 10 socks, few groceries- diabetics please.

Family 7:

Male: age 43. Size large sweat pants, pots and pans.

Family 8:

Female: age 49. Any non-food items - i.e. laundry soap, shampoo, toothpaste.

Family 10:

Male: age 8. Size 9 jeans, size 6 mid-calf socks, legos, books-3rd grade level, twin size sheets.

Male: age 14. Size 30x32 jeans, low-rise socks, hoodies, sweatpants, full size sheets.

Female: adult. Fareway, Hy-Vee gift certificate.

Family 11:

Female: age 69. Food or gas gift card.
