A bake sale will be held by the Friends of Collin Hanson as a fundraiser at Southpark Mall today.
Angel Food Ministry orders
The First Christian Church at 701 E. 18th St., Spencer, is hosting the Angel Food Ministry. Boxes of food may be ordered containing fresh meats, fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, and staple items. Each box contains approximately $65 worth of groceries for only $30. Today from 5-7 p.m., and from 9-10 a.m. and 12-1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, food can be ordered. Food will be picked up between 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. Food orders are taken each month.
Veterans Breakfast
Moose Family Center will be offering a free veterans breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. today. The meal is free to all veterans and their spouses.
Moira Smiley & VOCO at auditorium
Arts on Grand will present Moira Smiley & VOCO in concert at 8 p.m. this evening at the Old High School Auditorium. The all-female quartet was 2007's top a capella group. They perform Irish and Appalachian music, Eastern European folk music, and original compositions, both with and without instrument. Their a capella pieces feature show-stopping body percussion. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear an up-and-coming vocal ensemble on one of their rare visits to the Midwest! Tickets will be available at the door, and proceeds will go to benefit Arts on Grand.
TMTM ballroom dancing
Ballroom dancing with the TMTM Dance Club will take place from 7-11 p.m. tonight at the Hartley Community Center. Music will be provided by Sammy Jensen. Everyone is welcome.
Raymond Hollander benefit breakfast
An omelet breakfast and bake sale for Raymond Hollander will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the Parish Hall. Both events are freewill offerings that will help offset his medical expenses. The omelet breakfast is being hosted by the Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus. Funds are being matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. All are invited to attend.
VFW pancake breakfast
The Clay County VFW will host a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9. Pancakes, eggs, sausage and ham will be served with juice and coffee. A freewill donation will be accepted. The public is welcome.
Harvest Dinner at Moose Family Center
The 25th annual Harvest Dinner at Moose Family Center in Spencer will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9. Turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy, corn, rolls, coffee and homemade pies will be part of the meal. There is a charge.
Blood Bank in the area
The Siouxland Community Blood Bank will be in Spencer and Milford on Monday, Nov. 10. The Milford stop will be from 1-6 p.m. at the Milford Community Building.
AARP meeting
AARP will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10 at the Spencer Area Activity Center. Speakers Dr. Segretto and Nancy Howe will talk about Alzheimer's disease. The public is welcome to attend.
Where Are the Welders? forum
The "Where Are the Welders?" instructional forum and career fair will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10 at the Spencer High School Industrial Tech Building. Free pizza and pop will be served. The event will provide an opportunity to hear from welding instructors, employers and local manufacturers sharing their insight on the welding and fabrication industry. Students and their parents are encouraged to attend.
Avenue of Flags seeking help
The Avenue of Flags is seeking volunteer help on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Approximately 300 flags will be put up around the Clay County Courthouse on Tuesday, beginning at 7 a.m. and taken down again at 4 p.m. to honor past and present veterans. Many hands make the job easier.
