Esther Blum, 95, of Terril, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at the United Methodist Church in Terril. Revs. David Kruse and Paul Hanson officiated the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Terril.
Casket bearers included Bruce Gambrill, Tim Siefert, Paul Bush, Steve Metz, Robert Den Hartog and Roger Partridge.
Esther Myra (Brown) Blum, the daughter of Florence and Irvin Brown, was born Sept. 16, 1913, on a Dickinson County farm. She attended country school through the eighth grade, then worked her way through high school, graduating from Spirit Lake High School in 1932.
Esther married Clifford Blum of Terril on Dec. 24, 1934. She joined the Methodist Church in 1934, was a Sunday School teacher for 3- and 4-year-olds for many years, and served as a Camp Quest councilor, in the UMW and church circle. She also served as a 4-H leader, as a member of the Loyal Friends club, on the library board, Alpha Federated Club and as a charter member of the Terril Community Boosters. Esther belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and Gloria Chapter of Eastern Star. She also provided regular childcare for others.
Mrs. Blum was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clifford Blum, brothers: Chester Brown, Ronald Brown and Melvin Brown; and sisters: Irma Stammer, Bonnie Smith and Doris Molendorp.
Esther Blum is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Myra and Orlyn Steffen, Sheila and Paul Currans, Becky and Dick Curry; sisters: Alice Taylor, Flora Smith and Abbie Sash; sisters-in-law: Esther Brown, Carol Olson and Gerry (Hubert) Sternberg; brother-in-law Bill Thomsen; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
