The state leaders are expected to arrive at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday at 600 Grand Avenue, which is the former Marcos Restaurant location. The appearance is part of the Democratic Party's "Count On Us" Bus Tour, which begins Saturday and continues through Monday.
The Iowa Democrats will rally volunteers to help get-out-the-vote for Barack Obama, U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, and the state's entire Democratic ticket. The tour kicks off on Saturday morning at Iowa State University in Ames and will wrap up with a Des Moines rally on Monday night.
"Iowans in every corner of our state are excited and energized because they know that change is coming," Harkin said in a statement from the Iowa Democratic Party. "Democrats are offering solutions to rebuild our economy, create good jobs in Iowa, invest in education, and transform our health care system. I look forward to thanking our volunteers and rallying Democrats for the final push to Election Day."
The main bus of the "Count On Us" tour, featuring Harkin and Gov. Chet Culver, will make 16 stops across Iowa. The tour will also include a 23-stop "Count On Us" caravan, featuring Iowa Democratic Party leaders.
Special guests will appear in different areas of the state and include: former Governor Tom Vilsack and Christie Vilsack, Lt. Governor Patty Judge, Ruth Harkin, U.S. Reps. Bruce Braley, Dave Loebsack, and Leonard Boswell, 4th District Congressional Candidate Becky Greenwald, Secretary of State Michael Mauro and Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Scott Brennan.
