Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m., today at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger.
Interment will take place at South Walnut Cemetery in Graettinger.
Dorothy passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven.
Dorothy Helen (Stephenson) Appel, the daughter of Fred and Maude (Turner) Stephenson, was born March 1, 1920, in Castana.
She received her education at the Dow City schools and graduated with the Class of 1937.
In October of 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to Russell Mesenbrink. They moved to Clinton, where they lived until they moved to Graettinger, to a farm in 1962. Russell passed away in 1967.
In March of 1970, Dorothy was united in marriage to Einer Appel and they lived on a farm near Graettinger. Einer passed away in June of 1986.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. She had served on the church council and various other committees. She was also a member of the Graettinger Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; three sisters: Ardis, Lillian and Edna; a brother, Wayne; and infant son, Allen Mesenbrink.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons: Ronald Mesenbrink and wife, Jeanne of Ankeny and Bob Messenbrink and wife, Irene of Arvada, Colo.; an adopted daughter, Diane Beisner and husband, Jeff of Earlham; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Edgar Stephenson and his wife, Marie of Petaluma, Calif.; and two sisters: Lois Hess of Onawa, and Inez Busch of Des Moines.
