Wayne Rowe, 86, of Spencer, formally of Sioux Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Rev. Paul Hansen will officiate the 10 a.m. service. Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids.
Casket bearers will include Brian Rowe, Eric Rowe, Jeff Jensen, Paul Hockett, Rob Deedrick and Jeremy Roth.
Wayne Earl Rowe, the son of Harvey and Minnie (Messerschmitt) Rowe, was born Oct. 3, 1922, at Sioux Rapids. He was a 1940 graduate of the Cornell School of rural Sioux Rapids.
Wayne married Virginia Lou Klatt on Oct. 27, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids. The couple was blessed with two sons and a daughter: Tom, Teresa and Jeffrey. Following the death of Virginia, Wayne married Jean Hill on Sept. 2, 1978.
Wayne was a lifelong farmer and lived at the family farm north of Sioux Rapids until moving to Spencer in 1985. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. He also served on various boards and committees at the Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids and was a member of Enterprise Lodge of Masons, Eastern Star, Abu Bekr Shrine and the Spencer ATV Corp. Wayne also served on the Clay County Conservation Board and the Cornell school board, as well as in the Big Brothers program and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Mr. Rowe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, son Jeffrey, brother Harold and two sisters: Gladys Stone and Rosetta Davis.
Wayne Rowe is survived by his wife, Jean, of Spencer; son, Tom (Janet) Rowe of Freeport, Ill. and daughter Teresa (Bob) Thorinson of Emmetsburg; two stepdaughters: Janice (David) Deedrick of Cherokee, Bobbi (Dennis) Meints of Steamboat Rock; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
