Sioux City Diocese Catholic Bishop Walker Nickless was in Spencer Wednesday evening, meeting with sophomore, junior and senior boys from area high schools to discuss God's calling for their lives. Spencer High School students Bryan Tewes, Cody Rolfes and Jake Baxter were among the students on hand. Project Andrew is the name of the effort that Bishop Nickless is undertaking, meeting with the young men to ask them to consider a possible calling to life as a Catholic priest. Nickless dined with the area students and their parents, then spoke to the group about their future, asking them to listen for that special calling from God to vocations. With the growing average age of the Catholic priesthood, the numbers of new priests being ordained in the church pales dramatically to the number of experienced priests retiring. A similar dinner with the Bishop was held for students in Carroll on Sept. 17.
