Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Luhrs, 96, of Hartley, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at United Methodist Church at Hartley. Rev. Steve Campbell will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.

Emma passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley.

Emma Anna Luhrs, the daughter of William and Helena (Damm) Westphal, was born Aug. 5, 1912, in rural O'Brien County near Paullina. She was educated in the rural schools near her childhood home and graduated from Paullina High School in 1929. After graduating she kept house for her Dad until her marriage to Everett G. Luhrs on June 9, 1933.

Emma was a telephone switchboard operator at Hartley. After a brief marriage, she lived with her brother Bill and wife, Agnes and family until Bill and Agnes' deaths, then lived in an apartment until going to Assisted Living and later to Community Memorial Health Center.

Emma was a member of the Hartley United Methodist Church and Faith Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and two sisters.

Emma is survived by one sister-in-law; a special niece, Mary Lou Lenz, and extended family.

Warner Funeral Home of Hartley is in charge of arrangements.
