Rebels fall to L-M in three

Friday, September 19, 2008
SIOUX RAPIDS -- Sioux Central put together one of its strongest matches of the season Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as Laurens-Marathon picked up a 25-23, 25-20, 25-16 win over the Rebels.

"We came out the strongest we have so far this season," said Rebels head coach Sue Mattson. "The first two games were back and forth -- we just didn't come out on top. We got a little down in the third game and didn't play as hard."

Sioux Central served 90 percent as a team and was relentless on the defensive side. Four Rebels registered double-digit digs, while Brooke Scharn, Erin Safely and Michele Ferguson had a combined 14 blocks

Scharn also went 32-for-39 with 11 kills; Ferguson and Brady Rebhuhn each had four kills. "We did a nice job at the net," Mattson said.

Grace Rehnstrom added 15 assists, Brittny Rebhuhn had 10. Scharn led the way with 18 digs, Brady Rebhuhn had 15, Rehnstrom added 13 digs and Brittny Rebhuhn had 12.

Sioux Central fell to 5-7 with the loss. The Rebels will compete at the Cherokee Tournament Saturday.
