Spencer Public Library will host a book signing by Vicki Myron, author of "Dewey: The Small-town Library Cat Who Touched the World" tonight at the library. Vicki will speak at 7 p.m. and will sell and sign copies of her book afterward. Friends of the Library will provide refreshments and give away a copy of the book.
'Freedom from Smoking' sessions
Spencer Hospital is offering the "Freedom from Smoking" course, an eight-session, tobacco-cessation program which has been proven effective by the American Lung Associaton. The next course begins tonight and will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday nights through Oct. 30, with one Saturday session during the course on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

The Starlings to play ShakyTree
The Starlings duo will be live on stage at Shaky Tree Coffee Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. It's rootsy music with a simple beauty.
PSY, Carey's to hold Outdoor Movie Night
Free outdoor movie and popcorn at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at The Flower Park, west of Johnson School. They should park in the parking lot west of the school. Showing "The Lion King," because the homecoming theme for this year is "Wild With Pride." We hope to get everyone pumped up for homecoming, Oct. 6-10. Band Dinner Sunday
The Spencer High School Band will host their annual Band Dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21 in the high school student center. Dinner includes roast beef or ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dessert and a drink. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for students 10 and under. Tickets are available at the door.
October Fest Prayer Connection
All area women are invited to the "October Fest" Prayer Connection Potluck Luncheon at 11 a.m. on Wed, Oct. 1 at the home of Pat Christiansen, 703 Mallard Creek Dr., Pelican Ridge, Arnolds Park. Please bring a dish of your choice. It is a time of sharing and supporting each other with prayer and fellowship. We know everyone is not comfortable praying out loud so bring your concerns and we will include them in our prayers.

Many Voices Choir to begin practice
Many Voices Choir will begin practices for the Christmas concerts at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22 at the Iowa Lakes Community College Music Room. All other Monday practices will begin at 7 p.m. Bring a snack to share with others, for the party after practice. If you have a particular beverage you drink, bring it too, please.
The choir welcomes everyone that loves to sing. Do return, if you have sung with the choir in the past.
