Josie McCarty who attends Clay Central Everly School in Royal is shown holding her D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) poster which won the Most Creative Poster award at the Iowa D.A.R.E. conference in Decorah. this summer. Josie and her family live south of Royal. She attends school in Royal and was a fifth grade student in Mrs. Maurer's class this last year. Josie designed the poster to go along with last years D.A.R.E. theme, "We have the silver, let's go for the Gold." The theme was meant to show that D.A.R.E. celebrates its 25th year of helping youth to stay drug free and violence free. The theme also was very fitting in that this was the years for the Olympics. For her efforts the Iowa D.A.R.E. Association awarded Josie with a check for $25. Clay County D.A.R.E. then matched these funds and purchased Josie a $100 savings bond for education.
