Ruthven-Ayrshire falls to A-R

Friday, September 12, 2008
RUTHVEN -- Armstrong-Ringstead upended the Raiders Tuesday, handing Ruthven-Ayrshire its first loss of the season with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-22. Ruthven-Ayrshire had won its opener for the second straight year, beating Storm Lake St. Mary's Thursday, Sept. 4, 25-10, 21-25, 25-17, 25-22.

"The girls played well tonight at times. We need to get stronger on the offensive side of things. The passes were there for the most part, but for some reason the sets weren't getting exactly to where we needed them, and we weren't being very aggressive with the hits," said Ruthven-Ayrshire head coach Kim Sierck following the match.

The Raiders finished the match hitting at a 73-percent clip with just 11 team kills. The inefficiency at the net helped stymie an 88-percent serving effort, which included five aces. Armstrong-Ringstead was able to take advantage of its own strong serving to reel off the three-game sweep.

"We had a couple of serve receive rotations that they were really able to take advantage of, and they did," Sierck said. :We need to improve upon making the on-court adjustments and communicating that."

Sophomore Sadie Forey led the Raiders, slamming down three kills on 9-of-12 hitting, recording 11 digs and scoring one ace on 12-of-13 serving. Jessica Larson had two aces and four digs; Amanda Long had a team-high five kills and seven digs.

"There were definitely positive things. Our serving improved by five percent and we just need to keep plugging away at the little things that seem to get in the way of a complete match," Sierck commented.
