2008 Clay County Fair - Turner to light up stage with hit 'Firecracker'

Josh Turner is one of the brightest young stars on the country music scene right now. His lyrics speak to people because they are about everyday occurrences and people relate to that.

"The life that I live and the experiences that I have always affect what comes out of me creatively. I think that's what makes music real," said Turner.

The MCA recording artist debuted at the Grand Ole' Opry in December 2001 to a crowd that had never heard of him before.

All it took to win them over was the song "Long Black Train" that he had written himself. By the end of the night he had received several standing ovations and was on his way to stardom.

"Long Black Train" ended up being the title track on his double platinum debut album. His second album, "Your Man," also went double platinum with two of its singles being named muti-week No. 1 hits.

Growing up in rural South Carolina, Turner listened to traditional country music and was heavily influenced by it.

His third album, "Everything is Fine", shows how he is able to combine the traditional country sound that he grew up listening to with the contemporary sound of today. The first hit off the album, "Firecracker" is a perfect example of how traditional country can be fun and upbeat.

With a voice that has been compared to Johnny Cash, it's no wonder he was inducted into the Grand Ole' Opry in October by one of his idols, Vince Gill. Turner is one of the youngest members of the famed Nashville landmark.

Turner will be performing at the Clay County Fair grandstand with Luke Bryan on Friday, Sept. 12.
