Richard Leroy Gilbert, of Cathage, Miss., passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008. Memorial services were held Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Remus Baptist Church in Carthage. The officiant was Rev. Eddie Pilgram. He was laid to rest in Carthage.

Richard was born July 24, 1938 on the home place in Milford. Son of Myron and Laila Gilbert, he attended and graduated from Milford School.

Richard worked at the Spencer Packing Company for many years. He moved to Louisiana and worked for Pittsburg Des Moines Steel, as a boilermaker until 1971. He then moved to Orange, Texas and worked for Firestone Chemical Company, where they made synthetic rubber used for tires and plastics. He then worked as a contractor for a while. He bought an 87 acre farm in Carthage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Laila Gilbert; and one grandchild, David Flowers.

Richard is survived by three children: Lucinda Rae Gilbert Flowers from West Orange, Texas, Michelle Lynn Coldren of Paullina, and James Eldon Gilbert of Orange, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Margaret Stinehart of Vermillion, S.D., Marlene Johnson and her husband, Elwood Jr. of Milford, and Linda Soucek of Jackson, Minn.
