The employee at a local business began his work day with a call to police.

At about 5:57 a.m. Thursday, officers with the Spencer Police Department responded to a burglary in progress in the 100 block of W. Eighth St. An adult male fled the business as an employee arrived to open the store.

A person matching the employee's description of the intruder was spotted by a Clay County deputy. Investigators took 27-year-old Nathan Bell into custody. He was taken to the Clay County Jail on a charge of second-degree burglary.
