Tuesday is school board election day.

You don't have to serve on the board or run for school board, but you might think a bit harder about at least casting a ballot for your candidate or candidates of choice.

Of the five surrounding school board elections, Spencer is hosting the only contested race. Spencer candidates Todd Korbitz, Les Zobrist, Dean Mechler and write-in candidate Marti Bomgaars are all vying for two three-year seats around the board table. Voters in the Spencer district may cast ballots from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 in conference room B of the Spencer Community Schools administration building, located at 23 E. Seventh St.

Three South Clay school board positions are up for grabs in this election. Board members Mike Hildebrand, Troy Mayland and Amy Burkhart have all expressed interest in retaining their positions around the South Clay board table. Mayland and Burkhart are both seeking three-year terms. Hildebrand, a one-term board member, is running as a write-in candidate for a one-year term as an at-large South Clay board member. Voters in the South Clay district may cast their ballots from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday in the South Clay school building, located at 312 Fourth St. in Gillett Grove.

Clay Central/Everly candidate Brad Phelps is seeking a one-year term for the District 2 seat he currently holds. Voters in the Clay Central/Everly district may cast their ballots from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Voters registered in the Everly precinct may cast ballots at the Hap Ketelsen Community Center, 203 N. Main St., and Royal precinct balloters may vote in the Royal Community Center, 302 Main St.

Ruthven-Ayrshire candidates Dave Forey and Matthew Graves are both seeking three-year board positions. Voters in the Ruthven-Ayrshire school district may cast ballots from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ruthven Social Center, 1503 Rolling St.

Incumbents Christopher Stein and Mark Hale are running for two Okoboji Community School Board of Education at-large positions. Registered voters in the Okoboji district may cast ballots at the Milford Community Center, 806 N Ave., from noon until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
