Eaton donates $25,000 to the Spencer YMCA

Wednesday, August 27, 2008
A major Spencer employer has come forward with a donation to assist an ongoing, $1.35 million day care center expansion.

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation on Friday announced a "Powering Communities" grant of $25,000 to benefit the Spencer Family YMCA. Funds will be used to support the expansion Dvergsten Child Care Center to include infants and toddlers.

Community leaders broke ground on the Dvergsten expansion in April. The project will add 4,200-square feet to the existing child care service area. YMCA officials hope to have the addition open in January 2009.

"Eaton has made an outstanding contribution to support this project," said YMCA executive director Becky LaBarre. "Thanks to the company's generosity, we are able to provide a better variety of services, like day care, to our patrons and members of the community for years to come."

The YMCA is a mission-driven organization serving Spencer and the surrounding communities for 44 years. Founded on Christian principles, their mission is to welcome and support families and help build fundamental values including honesty, respect and responsibility.

The YMCA is for people of all ages, races, religions, incomes and abilities. A few of the facilities at the Spencer YMCA include, two swimming pools, an indoor track, three racquet ball courts, a state of the art weight training facility, sauna, steam room, whirlpool area and two gymnasiums.

"We strive to make a difference in the community and give back to programs that better the lives of the citizens," said Tara Hinderks, who specializes in human resources at Eaton's Spencer facility. "The day care center expansion will make it easier on working parents who want to be sure their children are in a safe and happy environment during the day."

Eaton's facility in Spencer, part of the company's hydraulics business, employs approximately 450 people who manufacture hydraulic pumps and motors for the agriculture and construction markets.
