WASHINGTON --Cale Kassel, son of Julie and Paul Kassel of Spencer, has just finished spending six weeks in Washington, D.C. working as an intern in Senator Chuck Grassley's office. Kassel is a 2007 Iowa State graduate and is currently a student at the University Of Iowa Carver College Of Medicine.

"Interning in Washington, D.C. is a valuable experience for any student interested in government and its inner workings," Grassley said. "Interns play an important role in my office and are given the opportunity to take full advantage of their surroundings. An internship is a unique opportunity for students to gain professional experience that will help them in their future endeavors."

Kassel worked on the Senate Finance Committee on the Health Team and assisted them by researching financial health issues, assembling packets of health related news articles, and designing spreadsheets. In addition, Kassel attended and helped prepare for many Finance Committee hearings.

"It's great to know that the people within Senator Grassley's office work so hard for Iowans and to improve health care," Kassel said. " I learned a lot through the process and look forward to taking what I learned in D.C. back to school."

College students interested in becoming interns for Grassley in Washington, D.C., or any of his state offices, should visit Grassley's Web page at http://grassley.senate.gov.
