Great Lakes Antique Automobiles
The Iowa Great Lakes Region Antique Automobile Club will be on display through Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Southpark Mall in south Spencer. Car enthusiasts and history buffs will enjoy this display. On Aug. 24 The Hands of Harmony Swinging Seniors will be entertaining us at 2:30 p.m. Come enjoy the display and entertainment.
Hubler, Kibbie highlight steak fry
The Clay County Democrats Annual Steak Fry Fundraiser will be Sunday August 24. Social hour begins 5 p.m. at the Oneota Park Shelter in the first block of 10th Avenue East in Spencer. Everyone is welcome. Guest speakers include 5th District U.S. House of Representatives candidate Rob Hubler, Iowa Senate President Jack Kibbie and Clay County Supervisor candidates H Schar and Tim Kehoe.

Boji Fest Scouts
Experience nature, water activities, rock walls and conservation with your family at Boji-Fest, Aug. 22-24 in the Great Lakes region of northwest Iowa. Fun-filled and age-appropriate activities are planned for the whole family. On Friday, youth can participate in mini-golf, Frisbee golf, volleyball, mine-digging, gold sifting and more, courtesy of Ranch Okoboji Amusement Park. Children under 5 come for free, youth fees for those 6-20 years-old are $25. For adults, the fee is $20. Many activities, including water sports, and the triathalon and gun sports require specific pre-registration. Boji-Fest is an activity organized by the Boy Scouts and Mid-America Council. Youth do not need to be registered in Scouts to attend.

Danny Santos at Shaky Tree
Singer/songwriter Danny Santos melds the inspiration of his Tejano heritage, a musical legacy ranging from Hank Williams to the Beatles, and a Texas-sized determination to create a unique mix of country/folk tinged with bluegrass and the blues. His songs illuminate the joys of true love, the woes of love lost, and the weary longing of those still searching for love. It's a style forged from maturity, grit and drive. Celiac Sprue to meet
The NW Iowa Celiac Sprue support group will be having a family pot-luck picnic at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 (note change) at Stolley Park, located on W. 18th St. in Spencer. Bring two gluten free dishes, your own table service and drink. We will be discussing a possible change of location for future meetings.

Clay County Fair advance gate tickets
The fair booster tickets will be sold individually for $5 each, a savings of $2 from the regular daytime gate admission price for adults. Individuals and businesses may take advantage of the savings by purchasing their tickets from a fair booster ticket location or a fair booster representative prior to 5 p.m. or earlier as a lot of the area locations will have the tickets picked up before 5 p.m. so they may be back to Spencer by then - Friday, Sept. 5. The Clay County Fair ticket office will sell booster tickers until 9 p.m. on Sept. 5.
American Legion Bingo cancelled
American Legion Bingo in Sioux Rapids will be closed for the rest of the summer, but will resume Sept. 17.
Glass Slipper Project
Lakes Area Glass Slipper Project is now collecting "tenderly worn" prom dresses that will go to help young girls attend their prom. Every young lady deserves to be "Queen" for a day at her prom. Please help us make a girls dream come true!

Hospice of Northwest Iowa offers grief support group
Losing a loved one is indescribable to someone who has not felt the loss of death. Hospice of Northwest Iowa's professional team understands the tragedy of losing a loved one and they identify with the difficult decisions and emotions that the person left behind faces. To help people cope with the death of a loved one, Hospice of Northwest Iowa is offering an 8-week Understanding Grief Support Group. The group will meet each Wednesday evening through Sept. 24 from 6:30-8 p.m.

Second Annual Sweet Escape
The Dickinson County Friends of CAASA are proud to present their Second Annual Sweet Escape on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 7-10 p.m. at the Pierson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji. Local dessert makers will be preparing succulent desserts that will be judged by attendees, local artists will be offering special pieces for auction with area musicians providing entertainment. Tickets are $50 per person or $85 per couple and will go on sale Aug. 11.
