This summer's outdoor showing will feature the critically acclaimed German film, "The Lives of Others". Set in the 1980's East Berlin, director Florian Heckel von Donnersmarck's debut feature provides an exquisitely nuanced portrait of life under the watchful eye of the state police as a high-profile couple is bugged. When a successful playwright and his actress companion become the subjects of the Stasi's secret surveillance program, their friends, family and even those doing the watching, find their lives changed, too. "The Lives of Others" won an academy award as the best foreign language film of 2007. Note: It is intense spy drama, intended for mature audiences.
Westview Memorial Park offers a small, natural movie amphitheater, set among the flowers and trees. Lighted candles will show the way to the site from the parking areas. Show time is set for 9:30 p.m. and is open to all. Easy parking is available on the street or in the Johnson School parking lot. free popcorn will be served, but viewers are reminded to bring lawn chairs, a blanket, and a beverage. The showing is free to the public, although a good will offering can be made to Arts on Grand, if desired.
