Funeral services for Mr. Charles Runkle, 63, of Spencer, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Dale Hodges will officiate the service.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Military services will be conducted by Glen Pedersen Post No. 1 - American Legion of Spencer following the graveside services.
Charles passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at Spencer Hospital.
Charles Eugene Runkle, the son of George Bruce "Judd" and Irma (Rorah) Runkle, was born April 25, 1945 in Spencer. He attended country schools in Clay County and later attended Everly High School, graduating in 1964. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army from September of 1964, until his honorable discharge in May of 1965.
On March 29, 1968, Charles married Karen Stevenson in Spencer and to this union two sons were born: Kirby and Ryan. Charles worked for Spencer Foods and then A&M Laundry before purchasing Helen's Laundry in 1975.
On March 21, 1986, Charles married Vonnie Jean in Spencer. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his father; and his first wife, Karen on June 20, 1983.
Charles is survived by his wife, Vonnie of Spencer; his two sons: Kirby Runkle and his wife, Ann of Spencer, and Ryan Runkle and his wife, Shauna of Spencer; his daughter, Shari Ellefson and her husband, Shane of Spencer; his stepson, Chris Feeley and his wife, Tricia of Urbandale; 13 grandchildren; and one brother, Ronald Runkle of Spencer.
