ARRESTS

* Lidia Montiel, 47, Alta, was taken into custody for failure to appear on a fifth-degree theft charge. She was picked up by deputies in Buena Vista County and transported to Spencer. Her family posted bond for her release.

* Joshua Griffin, 26, Spencer, was charged for driving while barred at 6:49 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, near East 18th Street and Fifth Avenue East in Spencer. He was held in jail to appear before a magistrate.

* A traffic stop by a Clay County Deputy lands two Clay County men in the Clay County Jail on traffic and drug charges. The deputy made a stop on a vehicle driven by Travis Stoyke, 34, Spencer, when the officer had prior knowledge of a suspended license. He was charged with driving while suspended and no proof of insurance. Upon further investigation, the passenger, Curtis Paine, 37, Spencer was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and for a small amount of marijuana. He also was placed under arrest. Paine was charged with possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

* At approximately 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, a Clay County deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with prior knowledge that the owner of the vehicle, Jamil Conley, 24, of Everly, and passenger Mercedes Johnson, 18, of Everly were wanted on Clay County warrants. Both individuals were placed under arrest and transported to the Clay County Jail for Booking. Jamil Conley and Mercedes Johnson were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

* Ruben T. Ayers, 33, Webb, was stopped for speeding at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in the 3100 block of 480th Street and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was taken to Clay County Jail, posted bond and was released.

* Curtis L. Tripp, 25, Spencer was taken into custody at 8:23 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, on a contempt of court warrant for a domestic abuse charge in Emmet County. He was taken to the Emmet County jail.

* Charlotte Nissen, 59, Spencer, was taken into custody at her residence at 8:06 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, for two Dickinson County warrants and a Emmet County warrant. She posted bond and was released.

* A 15-year-old and a 17-year-old were charged at 10:29 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, for discharging a BB gun within city limits. They were released to their parents.

ACCIDENTS

* Cynthia Arms, 43, Laurens, was traveling west at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, in the 1300 block of Highway 10 when she lost control of her 2001 Chevy. The vehicle entered the north ditch and continued into a farm pasture. Investigating deputies determined Arms was operating while intoxicated. A search of the vehicle and Arms turned up drug paraphernalia. Arms was flown out by helicopter and charges are pending her return. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $2,500.

* Kelsey Kay O'Kelley, 13, Milford, was southbound at 10:10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, on 250th Avenue and lost control of the pick up. The 1991 truck she was driving entered the west ditch, hit and spun the front end up onto the roadway. A passenger, Michael Roth was ejected through the rear window and the truck came to rest in the ditch. O'Kelley and Roth each transported to Spencer Municipal Hospital for undisclosed, non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending. Damage is estimated at $2,500.

* Nancy Rae Ouellette, 57, Spencer, was backing out of a driveway and struck a legally-parked 2000 Pontiac at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, near West Fourteenth Street and First Avenue West. The Pontiac sustained $750 damage. The 2002 parked Toyota sustained $500 damage.

* Rebecca Jane Maurer, 62, Spirit Lake, and Leora Joann Riedemann, 72, Spencer, were both southbound at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, near Fourth Street Southwest. Maurer attempted to change lanes but did not see the other vehicle. Her 2007 Chevy truck sustained $2,000 damage. The 2006 Dodge van driven by Riedemann sustained $2,500 damage.

* Tylor Duane Igou, 22, Spencer was attempting a turn from Eighth Street Southwest onto South Grand Avenue at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 30. He then changed lanes to avoid turning into traffic and pulled out into the path of a 2008 Chevy driven by Janice Marie Powers, 68, Spencer, who was also attempting an access to Grand Avenue. Her vehicle sustained $4,000 damage. The 1999 Ford driven by Igou sustained $2,000 damage.

* Daniel Jay Dekker, 23, Spencer was making a left turn at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, July 31, when he pulled out from a stop sign and into the path of an oncoming 1999 Lexus driven by Holman T. Quintin, 26, DeKalb, Ill. The Lexus sustained $2,500 damage. The 1996 Mercury driven by Dekker sustained $4,000 damage. Dekker said a construction sign obstructed his view.
