Monsanto's unique Mobile Technology Unit made a stop in Spencer and will remain in town through today as part of its tour through the United States, showcasing innovations in plant breeding and biotechnology to support farmer success. The new 53-foot-long traveling unit, (top right) with 1,000 square feet of exhibit space, will remain in place just west of the Clay County Regional Events Center in the parking lot through today, extending tour offers to groups throughout Clay County. In its first year, the tour is expected to make an estimated 40 stops, hosting tours for thousands of farmers, family members and other participants. Aboard the Mobile Technology Unit, farmers viewed an introductory video and then took a guided tour with William Kosinski, Phd. (Bottom right) though exhibit areas featuring displays, videos and interactive elements on: Breeding, Crop Analytics, Biotechnology, Research and Development Process, Corn Pipeline, Oilseed Pipeline, and Cotton Pipeline. Company officials emphasized that new product innovation is driven by pursuing both seed breeding and biotechnology on parallel pathways. Following the tour, farmers had the opportunity to view ethanol exhibits positioned outside the Mobile Technology Unit, including an on-site ethanol production demonstration unit. The traveling center will continue to provide tours today.
