Roughhousing near road leads to traffic scare

Tuesday, August 12, 2008
An eight-year-old Spencer boy sustained minor injuries after some play near a city street spilled over into the traffic at about 6:56 p.m. Saturday.

Michael Gabbard was one of three kids at play near the intersection of Second Avenue Southeast and Eighth Street Southeast. Two of the kids pushed Gabbard and he entered the roadway, according to a incident summary from the Spencer Police Department.

The driver on an oncoming 1991 Buick was 26-year-old Jessica Ann Wittrock of Spencer. Gabbard was struck by the left outside mirror of the Park Avenue. He was then taken to Spencer Hospital's emergency room after he sustained minor injuries to his left foot.

The traffic report found no improper action by the driver.
