Likely Democratic nominee Barack Obama will once again have a presence in Clay County.
The campaign has announced a Spencer Obama Office-opening Kick-off at 6 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, Aug. 12) at 301 Grand Avenue. The event is open to everyone. Food and refreshments will be provided.
The Spencer opening is one of six taking place at smaller communities throughout Iowa. Obama also is opening offices Tuesday night in Carroll, Grinnell, Indianola, Iowa Falls and Muscatine.
"We are excited to be opening even more offices across rural Iowa, so more Iowans have the opportunity to get involved in our campaign to fix Washington and bring real change to America," said Obama Iowa State Director Jackie Norris in a statement released Monday.
The Obama campaign previously opened a Spencer office, at the same location, on June 30, 2007, to coordinate efforts for the Iowa Caucuses. He carried both Clay County and Iowa in the Jan. 3 caucuses.
"Senator Obama has traveled across Iowa and understands the challenges facing rural communities," Norris said in the statement. "As President, he will fight to revitalize rural economies, bring good jobs to rural communities and make sure every American has access to quality, affordable health care."
In a separate event, the Clay County Democratic Party will meet at 7:30 p.m., Monday, August 18, at 419 East Second Street. The public is invited to attend.
