Sisters Liz and Gabby Kardell both donated to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially-disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss, Tuesday afternoon.
The pair, who mark Bruce and Gwen Kardell of Spencer's eldest and youngest of five children, trusted Sam Madison of Design Masters to shear them as their mother, grandmother Shirley Wheeler and friend Jake Kluver watched.
After 10 inches was trimmed from Liz' head Tuesday afternoon, she looked at herself in the mirror and said, "I like it. I feel so much lighter." Then, with a smile, the petite 26-year-old asked her loved ones who were standing nearby, "Am I taller?"

Tuesday's 8-inch donations of hair marked Gabby's second hair cut. Her first, which occurred approximately 9 months ago, netted 6 inches of hair. The 6-year-old, who'll mark her first grade year at Sacred Heart this fall, decided to donate her locks after hearing her older sister, a Clay Central/Everly High School business teacher, say she was going to.
After Gabby's third of four braids was trimmed, she exclaimed, "I look new! I don't remember myself (before). Who am I?"
After Madison styled each of the new hairdos and took their capes off, both Liz and Gabby received a hug from their mother.
