Youth Football final registration tonight

Registrations for the Spencer 3-6 grade teams, part of the Midwest Youth Football League, will only be accepted until tonight. A final registration will take place at Scharnbrg Park's shelter house from 6-8 p.m. tonight. At that time, late registrations who haven't had their sizes taken yet will be fitted. It will be the final fitting opportunity, otherwise, uniforms might not be available until a later date. After that time only people who have newly moved to this area will be allowed to register. Fee is currently $150 per player, which includes all of his football gear as well as jerseys with their names on the back the players get to keep. All players will have the opportunity to participate in six games.

* Go to www.myfootball.org to get a registration form. Forms can be sent, along with the $150 entry fee to: Spencer Youth Football, c/o Randy Cauthron, 207 35th Ave. W., Spencer, IA 51301. Entries along with checks may also be dropped off at the front desk of the Spencer Daily Reporter between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.


Single Spirits tonight

Single Spirits will be holding their next meeting on Thursday, July 31 at the Spirit Lake Library at 702 16th St. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. and we will be planning our activities for the next five weeks. Single Spirits is an organization that is open to singles of all ages in the area.

Reading Book Logs due Friday

All "Catch the Reading Bug!" Summer Reading Program Family Reader and Independent Reader participants must turn in their Book Logs at Spencer Public Library by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1. All Book Logs returned by that date will qualify for a prize and a Reading Achievement Certificate. Prizes and certificates will be awarded at "Catch the Reading Bug!" parties on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Family Readers are invited to a 10:30 a.m. party at the library. Independent Readers are invited to a 2:30 p.m. party at the library.


Glass Slipper Project

Lakes Area Glass Slipper Project is now collecting "tenderly worn" prom dresses that will go to help young girls attend their prom. Every young lady deserves to be "Queen" for a day at her prom. Please help us make a girls dream come true!

* To make a donation to this project or to drop off dresses, please contact Sondra Vitito at (712) 332-2721 or Jan Ridenour at the Kinship office 712-336-2535, www.dickinsoncountykinship.org. This project was started by the Kinship girls of 2008 in hopes to provide prom dresses for those girls who may not be able to afford them.


Diabetic Support Group

The Diabetic Support Group sponsored by Spencer Hospital and the Avera Diabetes Center will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4 in the Willow Conference Room of Spencer Medical Arts Building, 116 E. 11th St. Please use the north door on 11th Street and use the elevator or stairs to reach the conference room located on the second floor.

The program will be "Supplements and Over-the Counter Medications in Diabetic Care" presented by Connie Manderscheid, RPH. Everyone is welcome to attend. Pre-registration is not required.

Visually Impaired/Blind Self-help Group

The Spencer Area Visually Impaired/Blind Self-Help Group will hold their August meeting at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008. This meeting is the annual picnic to be held at the shelter in East Leach Park.

Individuals with vision loss are invited to attend to meet with the group and be informed about our purpose.

IGLLS Registration

Registration for the 2008-2009 school year at Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran Elementary School in Spencer will take place from 12-5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12.The school is located at 500 Fourth Ave. SW at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Spencer.
