Interment will take place at Faiview Cemetery in Teriil
Evelyn passed away Friday, July 25, 2008, at her son's home in Spirit Lake.
Evelyn Berneice Tuel, 94, of Spencer, was born in Terril on Oct. 27, 1913, to the late Michael and Della Cruse, Evelyn graduated from Terril High School in the class of 1930 and was the last member of her class. She was the Valedictorian and graduated at the age of 16. She first worked for Dr. Schooley in Terril as a bookkeeper and also worked in the Terril Post Office. She later went to cosmetology school in Sioux City and became a licensed cosmetologist. She married Kenneth Tuel of Milford in the fall of 1941 and after he joined the U.S. Army, Evelyn served with the U.S. Army Medical. Evelyn was the proud mother of four children. Daughter Kae Elizabeth died shortly after birth. After Kenneth passed away unexpectedly in 1957, Evelyn raised her three boys Michael, Larry and Charles. She usually worked two jobs while still finding time to teach Sunday school at the United Methodist Church in Spencer. Evelyn held various employment positions over the years retiring from Younker Brothers in 1978. She was a member of the Spencer Business and Professional Women and the VFW Auxiliary. She also spent time in Hawaii helping raise her granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth; baby daughter, Kae Elizabeth; and her brother LeRoy 'Bud" Cruse.
Evelyn is survived by her three sons: Michael of Spirit Lake, Larry of Des Moines, and Charles and wife, Vicky of Spencer; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in Terril.
Warner Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
