![]() (Photo submitted) Under the guidance of Barb Chenhall are Ashley and Amber Klaus and Linda Brechwald, The House Next Door to Parker Museum was filled with the smell of baking bread and pies, and lots of fun and laughter as everyone learned from each other. |
Museum volunteers, Marilyn Meyer and Barb Chenhall shared their knowledge of bread baking with the attendees who mixed up bowls of bread dough and shaped it into a variety of rolls and loaves. While those baked it was time to move on to wash day with a wringer washer.
Ellen Sorenson, Judy Sorenson and Gayle Simons explained the process of preparing the wash tubs and supervised PALS at the wash tub and wringer. And just as it happens on many wash days as clothes are being hung out, it began to rain. The final activity was learning how to make a perfect pie crust and apple pie filling taught by Sharon Simington.
Parker Museum's Heritage Workshop was funded by a Clay County Community Foundation Grant. Kay Schueneman and Verlie Amis were instrumental in organizing the afternoon's activities.
The museum is located at 300 East Third Street, Spencer. Parker Museum's mission is to collect, preserve and interpret Clay County history for the education and enjoyment of the public.
Clay County PALS is a big-brother/big-sister community mentoring program. Contact Carole Lea Cotton at 262-1093 or Pam Haak at 262-7655 for PALS information.
