Activities begin Friday morning at 7 a.m. with at least 30 garage sales in Milford. The All-Town Garage Sale is a returning favorite to Pioneer Days scheduled for July 25 and 26 in Milford. A city map, highlighting the locations of the garage sales, will be available at all Milford convenience stores, Buy Rite Food Center, and Thee Garage Sale, in downtown Milford.
Friday's activities continue with the annual Kiddie Parade, sponsored by the Campus Women's Club. Participants are asked to meet at the Milford Care Center at 6 p.m. The parade will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. traveling down H Ave. to Florence Park. All participants will receive a prize. The top three entries in four categories will receive ribbons.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. 444 franks will be served to all in attendance free of charge. A bag of chips, a drink and an ice cream treat will also be served free of charge.
The Milford Kiwanis Club along with Tena Hanson and her crew from the Milford Library will host Kiddie Games throughout Florence Park from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. These games are free of charge.
At the same time, Val Karczewski from Blue Water Awards and her crew will he handling the Little Tractor Pullers event on the south side of Florence Park while the Milford Fire Dept., under the auspices of Doug Heller, hosts a Kid's Water Fight on the west side of the park. CC Screen Printing will give children the opportunity to tie-dye their own t-shirt in Florence Park Friday night also for a small charge.
John Adams Jr., of the Lakes News Shopper, will be handling details of the Run, Kick, Punt and Pass contest, sponsored by the YMCA from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Okoboji High School Football field.
Saturday, July 26
All town garage sales will continue throughout Saturday, July 26.
The Union Memorial Church will host a bake sale and fresh produce sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The marquee event for Pioneer Days will be the Pioneer Days Parade set to begin at 11 a.m. The parade will follow a route identical to past years. After starting at Memorial Park (little league baseball diamonds), the parade will pass through the Milford Care Center parking lot, travel east along 13th St., turn south onto Highway 71 at the Catholic Church, pass through downtown, and end at the Union Memorial Church corner. Participants are encouraged to report to Memorial Park (two blocks west of Buy Rite) at 9 a.m. There is no entry fee and no pre-registration.
This year's Grand Parade Marshals are David and Connie Stein, long-time residents of Milford.
Sidewalk art for the kids will be held in front of the CR Gallery, in downtown Milford, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Immediately following the parade, a barbecue will be held at Florence Park. The Dickinson County Cattlemen's Association will grill burgers.
At noon the antique tractor pull begins in Memorial Park. From noon to 3 p.m. there will be a free concert in Florence Park featuring Steal Snafu and their Steel Drums Sounds of the Caribbean. Free watermelon will be served from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. At 1 p.m. a firefighter's water fight will be held at Florence Park. The Strongman Competition begins at 2:30 p.m.
Stories of Milford with Aubrey LaFoy and Jerry Clark will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church. The Classic Car Cruise-in will be held downtown from 4 p.m. to 9p.m.
Sunday, July 27
The Tractor Ride Around West Lake begins at Florence Park at 8 a.m. From 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. the Campus Women's Club will host their annual omelet breakfast at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A free will offering will be taken.
