Piper bringing hope, healing testimonial to Spencer
Don Piper, a best-selling author, speaker and minister, will share his message of hope and healing beginning at 7 p.m. tonight at the Clay County Regional Events Center in Spencer. Pronounced dead for 90 minutes following an accident he was involved in, Piper's story shares his firsthand look at heaven, as well as the healing he underwent following his 1989 fatality. Piper's talk and book signing is sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church of Spencer. A freewill offering will be collected.
Youth Football deadline
Registrations for the Spencer 3-6 grade teams, part of the Midwest Youth Football League, will only be accepted until Thursday, July 31. After that time only people who have newly moved to this area will be allowed to register. Fee is currently $150 per player, which includes all of his football gear as well as a jerseys with names on the back the players get to keep. All players will have the opportunity to participate in six games.

Single Spirits
Single Spirits will be holding their next meeting on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Spirit Lake Public Library at 702 16th St. We will be planning our activities for the next five weeks. Single Spirits is an organization that is open to singles of all ages in the area.

Second Annual Sweet Escape
The Dickinson County Friends of CAASA are proud to present their Second Annual Sweet Escape on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 7-10 p.m. at the Pierson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji. Local dessert makers will be preparing succulent desserts that will be judged by attendees, local artists will be offering special pieces for auction with area musicians providing entertainment. Tickets are $50 per person or $85 per couple and will go on sale Aug. 11.

American Legion Bingo cancelled
American Legion Bingo in Sioux Rapids will be closed for the rest of the summer, but will resume Sept. 17.
Spencer Family YMCA kids carnival
The Spencer Family YMCA will be hosting its annual carnival Friday, July 25 at the YMCA. It is open to all Spencer kids in kindergarten through sixth grades only. All playground parks will be closed that day and will meet at the YMCA. Also, any child in Kids Kamp or childcare at the YMCA will be able to attend. Kids can purchase tickets at the YMCA or through any park counselor.

YMCA schedules summer dance party
Students entering or exiting seventh or eighth grade in Spencer are invited to a YMCA Summer Dance Party, 8-10 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the Spencer Family YMCA tennis courts. Cost is $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Dress code will be enforced, meaning no clothing considered obscene, drug or alcohol related, or criminal or vulgar in nature will be allowed. Visible undergarments and midriff tops also will not be allowed. A live DJ will be on hand and refreshments will be for sale. The admission is a one-time entry. Once the middle school student leaves, they will not be allowed back in. In the case of severe weather, the event will be moved indoors at the YMCA.
Parade, omelet breakfast planned
The Campus Women's Club will sponsor two events during Milford's Pioneer Days July 25-27. The annual kiddie parade will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 25. The route goes from the Care Center to Florence Park. Each parade participant receives a gift. And the winners in four categories will receive a ribbon. On Sunday morning, July 27, the Campus Women's Club will host their annual omelet breakfast in the paraish center at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Breakfast begins at 8 a.m. and continues until 12.15 p.m.
Are you the next American Idol?
Then come to the KTPH Siouxland Idol at the Plymouth County Fair's Pioneer Stage on July 26. Registration starts at 11 a.m. and singing starts at noon. In 2007, Katie Admire won the KTPH Siouxland Idol contest and made it all the way to Hollywood. This year we'll be giving one more lucky singer the chance to live the dream with a guaranteed audition for American Idol and KTPH 2007 Siouxland Idol winner Katie Admire will sing between rounds. Singers are asked to register at the Plymouth County Fair's Pioneer Stage and be prepared to sing two one-minute songs a capella.

Prayer Connection luncheon
It's a "Salad Luncheon Prayer Connection" on Wednesday, July 30, at 12:30 p.m. at the Arnold's Park City Hall in Arnold's Park. Everyone is to bring a salad to share. It is a time of sharing and supporting each other with prayer and fellowship. We know everyone is not comfortable praying out loud so bring your concerns and we will include them in one of our prayers. Feel free to join us no matter your concerns. We love to make new friends. The 29th Annual Iowa Great Lakes Coin, Postcard, Stamp, and Paper Money Show will be on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug.17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Located in the Community Building, one block north of the Hwy 9 Hy-Vee in Spirit Lake.
