'Bee' there for tonight's library program

Young people and their families are invited to "Bee" at the library tonight at 6:30 p.m. for the "Pockets Full of Fun" program. Join Lisa Laird of Orange City, and her friends from "Pockets Full of Fun" as they learn about some interesting creatures in the insect world. Magical illusions, help from children in the audience and a very special surprise ending will be a part of the program. Two children from the audience will even become puppets as Lisa tells the story "Hey Little Ant!" by Phillip and Hannah Hoose. There is no charge for the event, and everyone is invited to attend on Tuesday at the Spencer Public Library.


Bike rides Tuesday nights

A newly-formed bike club, called Spencer Pedal Power, would like to invite any bicyclist to its weekly Tuesday night bike ride. Plan to arrive at the Spencer Middle School parking lot at 6:30 p.m. to leave on a 6:45 p.m. ride. All riders in and around Spencer are welcome to participate.

Farmers Market held every Wednesday and Saturday

The Spencer Area Farmers Market will be held every Wednesday and Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the Southpark Mall parking lot. Come see the homegrown, fresh produce for sale.


Piper bringing hope, healing testimonial to Spencer

Don Piper, a best-selling author, speaker and minister, will share his message of hope and healing beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23 at the Clay County Regional Events Center in Spencer. Pronounced dead for 90 minutes following an accident he was involved in, Piper's story shares his firsthand look at heaven, as well as the healing he underwent following his 1989 fatality. Piper's talk and book signing is sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church of Spencer. A freewill offering will be collected.

American Legion Bingo cancelled

American Legion Bingo in Sioux Rapids will be closed for the rest of the summer, but will resume Sept. 17.


Spencer Family YMCA kids carnival

The Spencer Family YMCA will be hosting its annual carnival Friday, July 25 at the YMCA. It is open to all Spencer kids in kindergarten through sixth grades only. All playground parks will be closed that day and will meet at the YMCA. Also, any child in Kids Kamp or childcare at the YMCA will be able to attend. Kids can purchase tickets at the YMCA or through any park counselor.

YMCA schedules summer dance party

Students entering or exiting seventh or eighth grade in Spencer are invited to a YMCA Summer Dance Party, 8-10 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the Spencer Family YMCA tennis courts. Cost is $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Dress code will be enforced, meaning no clothing considered obscene, drug or alcohol related, or criminal or vulgar in nature will be allowed. Visible undergarments and midriff tops also will not be allowed. A live DJ will be on hand and refreshments will be for sale. The admission is a one-time entry. Once the middle school student leaves, they will not be allowed back in. In the case of severe weather, the event will be moved indoors at the YMCA.
