Cruise In Friday night

The Fifth Annual Cruise In will be held from 6-9 p.m. tonight in the McDonald's parking lot at the Southpark Mall in Spencer. Plaques for the first 75 cars. Registration from 6-7:30 p.m., with awards given at 8:30 p.m. Trophies for the top three "peoples choice." Prizes also. Rain day has been set for Friday, July 25.


Fuhrman/Cervantes Auction/Street Dance

A benefit auction/street dance will be held for Tara Fuhrman-Cervantes and family Saturday, July 19 at Jackson's Café on Main Street in Webb. Tara is the daughter of Scott and Billi Banks. Tara and Sofia were displaced from their home by a devastating fire in June in Spencer. The fire took everything. She and her husband are expecting a second daughter in August. An auction of donated items will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a raffle drawing at 5:45 p.m. A cookout will be held at 6 p.m., with a street dance to follow at 7 p.m.

Canoe float for Shayla Bee

A canoe float will start at Dead Horse Access at 11 a.m.,Saturday, July 19 and end at Crone's Pasture will be followed by a supper -- all for the benefit of the Shayla Bee Foundation. There is an entry fee. A T-shirt and supper are included.

Farmer's Market held every

Wednesday and Saturday

The Spencer Area Farmer's Market will be held every Wednesday and Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Southpark Mall parking lot. Come see the homegrown, fresh produce for sale.


Spencer Car Show Jamboree

The first annual Spencer Car Show Jamboree will be Saturday, July 19 at JS Customs and Repair, just east of Bomgaars on East 28th Street. Events for the day will include a car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a burnout contest at 4 p.m., a car wash for charity from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a street dance showcasing Solera from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Entry fees for the six-class car show and burnout contest is $12. Applicants can register for the show from 9 to 11 a.m. and for the burnout from 9 to 3 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top three places in each class. Gates open at 8:30 a.m. General admission for spectators is $8. Door prizes will be given away throughout the day. Food and beverages will be for sale.

Butterflies program, nature hike

A weekend program at the Lost Island Nature Center will feature Butterflies at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. A free lesson on butterflies followed by a nature hike will take place near the nature center. This program is appropriate for all ages.


Clay County Toy Show

The Clay County Toy Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 19 and from 12-5 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at the Southpark Mall. Collectors and toy fans will enjoy the variety of collectibles, farm toys, toy trucks, NASCAR, Coke products and much more memorabilia on display to buy, sell or trade.


Iowa Lakes Genealogy Society to meet

The Iowa Lakes Genealogy Society will meet at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at the Higgins Museum for a sack lunch and then our meeting and a tour of the facilities. We will then go to the Gardner Cabin in Arnolds Park. To carpool from Spencer, be at the parking lot south of the library before noon.


Willie Nelson to play Arnolds Park

Willie Nelson and family will be performing on Saturday, July 19 at Preservation Plaza in the Park at Arnolds Park. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at www.arnoldspark.com, the Arnolds Park Amusement Park ticket booth and all Ticketmaster locations.


'Eggstravaganza Omelet Brunch'

Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School Board is hosting an "Eggstravaganza Omelet Brunch" on Sunday, July 20, at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Egg-ceptional omelets and cinnamon rolls will be served from 10:30 a.m. -- 1 p.m. A free-will offering will be taken, with $400 matching funds from Clay County Chapter of Thrivent. Plan now to attend this annual summer benefit for IGLLS.
