The Spencer Cardinals racked up 17 hits en route to defeating the Adrian A's 16-6 in seven innings last Saturday.
Seven Cardinal batters recorded multi-hit games, led by Mike Koenecke, who went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. SHS graduate Will Glienke recorded the win for Spencer, pitching six innings with eight strikeouts and four walks.
The Cardinals stroked three hits in the first inning to put the first run of the game on the scoreboard, but they were just getting started.
Glienke led off the second inning with a double and was brought home with an RBI base hit from Nick Redding. Following a Wade Davis walk, Mitch Feller drove in Redding with a single. Mitch Fandel and Jeff Steen each recorded doubles to bring in three more runs for Spencer, extending the Cardinal lead to 7-0 after two innings.
Spencer would score a run in each of the next two innings, but Adrian's bats started to liven up, slapping out seven hits over the third and fourth innings to put three runs on the board. In the sixth inning, the A's scored three more runs, narrowing the gap to 9-6. The Cardinals provided some extra breathing room in the bottom of the sixth as Steen, after a leadoff single and a stolen base, was driven home Koenecke double. After Spencer shut Adrian down in the top of the seventh, the Cardinals scored six more runs on three hits and three errors to notch the 10-run victory.
Leadoff hitter Seth Thomas finished 2-for-4 with two RBI; Redding and Jeremy Payne also posted 2-for-4 nights. Glienke, Fandel, and Redding also recorded two hits. The Cardinals slugged the ball with consistency throughout the lineup, accumulating six extra-base hits.
Spencer improved its First Night League record to 11-3 with the win.
