Clay County Deputies charged 26-year-old Brandon Wayne Janssen with child endangerment after they suspect he was driving while intoxicated with a 2-year-old child in the vehicle.
The deputies pulled a van over for an equipment violation at 3:10 a.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Second Avenue Southeast in Spencer. They later determined Janssen was under the influence of alcohol and driving while suspended.
Minors use county shed for drinking party While on patrol at 2:19 a.m. Thursday, July 3, a deputy observed lights on inside of the county shed at 300 East Park Street in Spencer. On the north side of the county building were two individuals standing in the area where the lights were on. The deputy then stopped to investigate why these individuals were at this location.
Once the squad car was stopped the two individuals took off running to the west. The deputy and Spencer Police Officers checked the area to the west of the county shed and located an underage drinking party. Six area youth were charged with possession of alcohol under the legal age, and released to parents or guardians. Two of the six also face charges of interference with official acts for running and hiding from law enforcement officers.
ARRESTS
* Zachary Williamson, 20, Ruthven, was stopped at 7:38 p.m. Friday in the 3200 block of 335th Avenue for a minor traffic violation. During the stop the deputy determined that the driver, Zachary Williamson was a minor and had been drinking. Williamson was then taken to the Clay County Jail where his license was revoked for the .02 violation. He was released with a citation for the traffic violation. No criminal charges were filed.
* Dana Eugene Igou, 24, Spencer, was taken in on the Clay County warrant on the original charge of fifth-degree theft at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, in the 1200 block of McNaughton Way. He posted bond and was released.
ACCIDENTS
* Clay County deputies were called to an accident at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, in the 1700 block of Highway 18. Ann Doris, 76, of Everly was traveling west on Highway 18 when she went to turn north onto 170th Avenue. Her vehicle was rear-ended by Gerald Ruehle, 71, of Ruthven. Doris was transported to Spencer Hospital for evaluation. Deputies were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and Everly Fire and Rescue. Doris' 1992 Plymouth sustained $1,000 damage. Ruehle's truck sustained $250 damage.
