Spencer Hospital offers wellness screenings

Tuesday, July 8, 2008
Summer is filled with celebrations and class reunions! If your last health check-up was your high school athletic physical, then now is the time to know your health numbers.

Spencer Hospital Community Health Services will offer comprehensive wellness screenings to the public from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15 in the lower level of the hospital. The fee for the screening is $65.

Screening includes a laboratory blood screen for diabetes, anemia, immunity, heart, liver, and kidney function tests; body composition analysis, blood pressure; pulse check and for women a heel bone mineral density screening for $65. Optional tests for an additional fee include a colorectal cancer screening kit for $2; a TDaP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) Booster for $40; and for men a PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) for an additional fee of $20.

"This is a very comprehensive screening," said Lois Stillman, Health Promotions and Disease Prevention Co-Coordinator. "Our goal is not only to conduct a thorough screening, but to also provide you with understandable information on how to maximize your health. Participants receive a 13-page Personal Wellness Profile Report which provides a thorough explanation of the individual's results along with a plan for wellness."

Stillman continued, "We've seen success stories initiated by our Wellness Screenings. One gentleman from our previous screening lowered his cholesterol nearly 100 points in less than three months by making smarter lifestyle choices. Not only do we provide the screening tests, we help in linking people to the health services they may need."

Screenings are open to anyone 18 years of age and over. Stillman reported, "Knowing your health numbers early in life is beneficial for living stronger. Lifestyle habits we develop as young adults set the stage for your health throughout your life."

Screenings take approximately 15 minutes. Participants should have nothing to eat or drink for 12 hours prior to their appointment time. Today is your day to put your health check-up on your "To Do" list.

* Call for an appointment 264-6380.
