A traffic stop and subsequent foot pursuit by Clay County deputies, resulted in the arrest of a Spencer man now in the Clay County jail facing several criminal charges, including narcotics and traffic violations and interference causing injury.

At approximately 5 p.m., Tuesday, in the 1800 block of Fifth Avenue East, Clay County deputies initiated a traffic stop on a white Chevy Malibu driven by Jerry Darnell Mosley, 25, 218 E. 14th St., Spencer. Mosley pulled his car into a residential parking lot, exited his car and led deputies on a short foot pursuit before being apprehended in the 600 block of East 19th Street. Prior to Mosley's arrest, deputies observed Mosley throw a plastic baggie onto the roof of a nearby apartment building complex. Mosley was secured and the Spencer Fire Department was notified to assist deputies with access to the roof. With this assistance, deputies were able to locate a plastic baggie containing a white substance believed to be cocaine.

Mosley was transported to the Clay County jail and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance w/Intent to Deliver-Cocaine, a Class C felony, Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, a Class D felony, driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor and Interference with Official Acts, a serious misdemeanor. The Interference with Official Acts charge is enhanced because the act caused injuries to officers.

Mosley is being held in the Clay County jail on $50,000 bond. His car was seized and forfeiture proceedings could be initiated.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office, a member agency of the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force, was assisted by the Spencer Fire and Spencer Police Departments and the Iowa Adult Probation and Parole Office.

This investigation is continuing and further arrests are expected.
